Apex Legends Announce $5million Prize Pool for ALGS Season 2
Apex Legends has undeniably grown beyond expectations in the early months of 2021, despite fierce competition from the ever-popular Call of Duty: Warzone, a resurgent Fortnite esports scene, and even a vastly growing PUBG Mobile.
The first year of their inaugural esports series came to a conclusion in June, with the five regional winners all taking home a large slice of a crowdfunded $2,000,000 prize pool.
Just a month after the chaos erupted in the Apex Legends Global Series regional finals, EA has eyes on the second season and has revealed that it will kick off in September.
ALGS Year 2 Format Announced
Starting in September, teams will be able to qualify for the Pro League Split 1, which will determine who will qualify for a live-event playoff in January 2022. The same format will be used for a second split, with a qualification stage before a gauntlet and live-action playoffs.
Teams who qualify for the Split 2 Playoffs will be given an easier crack at qualifying for the ALGS Championships, which will determine the best teams in the world.
Click to enlargeThe developers also revealed that the ALGS Year 2 format will be open to console players, having recently been exclusive to PC. Both PlayStation and Xbox players will be able to compete, although Nintendo Switch is now compatible.
ALGS Year 2 Prize Pool
The total prize pool for the Apex Legends Global Series Season 2 is a whopping $5,000,000.
The pool will be split between five regions: North America, South America, Europe Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific North, and Asia-Pacific South.
It is unknown how EA plan to distribute the overall prize pool, although it will likely weigh heavily in the favour of North America and EMEA.
With live events on the rise, the ALGS Year 2 season could be one for the history books of Apex Legends.
