Battlefield 2042 will include cross-platform play, DICE and Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed.

This means that PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X players will all be able to play against each other. From everything we know about Battlefield 2042 so far, it sounds like it's going to be great. So this new information is very encouraging.

What Exactly Has Battlefield 2042 Said About Cross-Play?

In a blog post, they said: "We are still building cross-play functionality, and the first opportunity for us to test it with a wider, invite-only group will be within the Technical Playtest. Right now, we’d like to give you an understanding of what we’re looking to achieve as final functionality beyond the Technical Playtest, so here is an overview of what you can expect that to look like:

  • PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®5 consoles (PC and console can opt-out from playing together)
  • Xbox One and PlayStation®4 systems"

This is great news for PC and console gamers, as there is still a bit of hesitance when it comes to having to play against someone who's using PC or console when you're using the opposite.

Will PS4 And Xbox One Players Also Have Cross-Play On Battlefield 2042?

As Polygon reports, there is a catch if you're playing on a last-gen console. If you're a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One player, you'll still be able to take part. But the maximum player amount is different from next-gen (64 players and 128 players). As a result, cross-generation play will not be included in this year’s Battlefield.

What Has Battlefield 2042 Said About Cross-Progression And Cross-Commerce?

In the blog post, they continued: "Alongside cross-play we’re also building cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms and travel with you wherever you go. For example, your unlocked progress and purchases in your PlayStation® copy of the game will carry over onto the Xbox or PC version, and vice versa."
