Battlefield 2042 has made some big promises. For many, what we've seen in trailers and what we've been told in press releases adds up to suggest Battlefield 2042 could be one of the very best shooters yet, and exemplify what the genre can do on new-gen hardware - but so far, the reaction to the game has been... lukewarm.

Despite its white-knuckle action and dynamic weather showing off a glossy title, there's a lot of concern Battlefield 2042 won't be able to uphold the many features it expressed to bring to life. With this in mind, it looks like fans are retaliating and are taking down the Battlefield 2042 reviews scores in the process.

Players are retaliating to Battlefield 2042's first peeks via early access, claiming it made too many promises it couldn't keep, and have taken to review sites to make their voices heard. Metacritic is the primary point of attack, and while critical scores are positive and sitting at a respectable 80 Metascore, its user score comes in at a meagre 2.6.

This is sadly common practice for fans of certain properties, and the fans of Battlefield are certainly no exception, dealing a hefty blow to the new title's reputation for anyone interested enough to look up its player scores. For better or worse, the Battlefield 2042 reviews bomb has worked, meaning the game has truly never looked worse from the outside.

What Are The Battlefield 2042 Reviews Saying?

It's not just number scores that are dealing the damage to Battlefield 2042 on Metacritic - the reviews that come with them are furious with the result of the game. One such review from Jaanus suggests that "It is somewhat fun, but it's not Battlefield. Absolutely unfinished and not worth buying. Try again in 2 years."

"Devs need to stop putting out unfinished and broken garbage", says another review by LonerStoner. "The rubber banding, glitching, and crashing is a damned shame. $70 for this? Not a chance." It could be worse, it could be the GTA Trilogy

It's clear that Battlefield 2042 isn't reaching expectations - and it could jeopardise the future of not only 2042, but the Battlefield franchise at large. We know now that games rely on post-launch content, but maybe in the case of this game, it might not be enough.
