Ahead of a pending reveal of the annual franchise instalment, Sledgehammer Games has dropped a Call of Duty: Vanguard teaser trailer, and detailed a live Warzone event on August 19 will display the full release.

The 100-second-long teaser drags us through many WWII-esque wreckage sites, offering an eerie and almost post-apocalyptic display, giving us a first glimpse of the backstory to the alternate timeline.

The Call of Duty: Vanguard trailer also gives us a sneak peek at the characters that will be on display, either as antagonists within the campaign or as operators in both multiplayer and Warzone.

According to the credible leaker, Tom Henderson, the protagonists that are on display throughout are based upon real-life veterans of WWII. As pictured on the white towel following the beach-side plane wreckage is reportedly Captain Vernon L. Michael, known as the hero of Midway. The Captain was decorated with 'the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medals, and various other combat recognitions', following many successful and pivotal missions in WWII, specifically those at Midway where his bombs struck two Japanese Carriers.

Henderson also explained that the sniper in the window belonged to Lyudmila Pavlichenko nicknamed "Lady Death", a real-life sniper who confirmed over 300 kills in WWII. The markswoman was also seen in a newly-adapted Warzone end screen, taking down the final victor who boards the evacuation chopper.

The trailer also confirmed that a worldwide reveal will be taking place in Verdansk on August 19.

Taking place just minutes before the CDL World Championships, the in-game event will likely see a full reveal of the game, including more details about a release date (suspected to be November 5).

It's yet unclear as to whether the event will be similar to the nuking of Verdansk, or whether it will be the start of an Easter Egg, just as we saw prior to Black Ops Cold War.

Either way, Call of Duty: Vanguard is fast approaching, and it might even see the undefeatable train finally blow up... (it will).
