Sony's State of Play event has showcased new footage of Horizon Forbidden West

After huge sales and critical acclaim for its predecessor Horizon Zero Dawn, it was only a matter of time before they released a sequel. Almost unbelievably, it's been nearly a year since we saw the first glimpse of the game during the PlayStation 5 Showcase.

The new footage shows incredible scenes of where the story will be set, as we continue Aloy’s story as she moves west to a 'far-future America'. The story shows that she has sent her friend, Erand, to recover an artefact. Sent him on an Erand, if you will. However, the task isn't as easy as it seemed, as he is taken hostage by the Tenakth Tribe, and she has to go rescue him. It also gave us insight into a multitude of new weapons, including the Pullcaster (which aids her climbing). She can now also explore the sea.

As you can see in the above trailer, the gameplay footage itself is absolutely gorgeous. The setting looking more crisp and realistic than ever. There's also some incredible non-human enemies that she needs to defeat.

In a blog announcing the event, Sony said: "During this State of Play, we will debut the Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal! In this 20-minute exclusive segment, you’ll be seeing about 14 minutes of brand new in-game action featuring our heroic protagonist Aloy, all captured directly on PlayStation 5,

"This reveal has been a true team effort and we’re very excited to show you what we have in store. Whether you’ve been with us and Aloy since Horizon Zero Dawn or are only just getting to know this incredible world, we want to share this huge milestone with you and cannot wait to see your favorite moments and reactions."
