Control was one of the strangest AAA titles of the last few years. Its cathartic office-supply-smashing action combined with a curious avant-garde presentation and story was incredibly captivating, and made for a riveting gaming experience for those who chose to take a chance on it.

Of course, it’s tough for a game as maddeningly peculiar as Control to break the ice these days, what with many games doing away with stories or just simplifying them, so to see a game with such a twisting and peculiar narrative perform well was very refreshing.

And it looks like the worlds of curious world-building and multiplayer madness are set to collide, as developers Remedy are working on something very different set in the very same world of the Federal Bureau of Control.

In a blog post titled ‘The Future of Control’, the game’s developers comment on what a new deal with 505 Games will mean for them going forward. The biggest announcement to come from this big blog post is that Project Condor, a whole new 4-player co-op game set in the universe of Control.

“We get that there is going to be scepticism about multiplayer” starts Control game director Mikael Kasurinen in the post. “But I believe we can create shared experiences without compromising the unique DNA of who we are, or the stories we want to tell. Yes, we need to re-think our angles, our techniques, our mindset, but we see it as an exciting challenge: what would a Remedy multiplayer game look like?”

Kasurinen shares a concept image of the game and what can be expected of the game; it looks like players will take control (hehe) of one of these four workers, presumably without Jesse Faden’s abilities, taking on baddies across the bureau.

The game sounds fascinating, and we have full faith that Remedy has the know-how to make this project work. It might still be a while off, but this announcement is exciting in itself. Time to replay Control, we suppose?
