There's a Groundhog Day-inspired adventure on the cards, as Arkane Studios prepares to unleash Deathloop onto the world. With Arkane known for its work on the violent Dishonored series, it's no surprise Deathloop is bringing the adult themes. However, it sounds like the trippy time tale is even more mature than we first thought.

In Deathloop, you take the role of an assassin called Colt - who finds himself trapped in a time loop. Colt has one night to take out eight targets across the island of Blackreef.

Leaving even one alive causes the loop to reset, but unlike the mechanics of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's MaskDeathloop's loop isn't fixed to a specific runtime.

What NSFW content does Deathloop include?

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) rates games across North America and confirms Deathloop is rated M for Mature. Revealing why Deathloop got slapped with this adult rating, the official ESRB site explained it's to do with the title's suitably NSFW themes.

The ESRB description reads as follows, "During one sequence, a character is seen in a room while sexual moaning sounds are heard. Characters sometimes reference drugs (e.g., uppers, downers) and getting/being high on fictional drugs (e.g., “Looks like an over-engineered auto-erotic asphyxiator...Also, it's going to smoke us up. Get us high.”)".

If that wasn't enough, the words f**k, sh*t, and c**t, are also part of the characters' speech - proving Deathloop isn't one for the kiddies. The idea of "sexual moaning" suggest Colt or some of the island inhabitants won't be keeping their clothes on for long. Then again, in a game where there are no consequences because your loop resets every day, it sounds like the residents are making the most of their debaucherous lives.

What else do we know about Deathloop's NSFW rating?

Deathloop's M rating shouldn't come as much of a shock, given what we've already seen. The first trailer was already a NSFW romp through Blackreef, which is hyped by the ESRB's confirmation of "blood splatter effects". Hot on Colt's tail is rival assassin Juliana - who is intent on protecting the loop. Footage has shown Colt being repeatedly stabbed from a first-person perspective, so the rating was always going to be on the more mature side.

Elsewhere, the multiplayer campaign will let you flip into playing as Juliana, with you dropping into a random player's game to try and disrupt their day. Deathloop is a clever twist on the ol' time loop trope, and with more adult themes, it could be a game to watch.

Sadly, that's all we have to go on for now with Deathloop, after Arkane delayed the PlayStation 5 exclusive from its original May release to September. If you're in the mood for some filthy content, it sounds like Deathloop has you covered.
