EA has made a name for itself in the gaming industry... and it's not a particularly good one. Though it's technically been overtaken by Blizzard, EA's loot box affinity - and love of selling games for as much as is culturally acceptable - means the company is associated with the most egregious money-making practices.

It's a shame that it hasn't done a lot to reduce this poor reputation. At least EA is owning a big mistake on its part, letting fans cop the new FIFA for less than 10 cents. It might hit the publisher in the pocket, but oh well.

Why Was FIFA 23 So Cheap?

For a brief period, EA let go of its extortionate pricing, if only by accident. This meant FIFA 23 was appearing at a price you'd only see if the game was ten years old.

In one of the biggest pricing mishaps the industry has ever seen, the pre-order for FIFA 23 on the Epic Games Store was listed for 4.80 rupees in India. This works out at roughly $0.06 USD. Oof.

It gets worse for EA, as this listing was for the Ultimate Edition of the game. It means that it comes as the biggest and most expensive package of the game. Players are getting into the final FIFA title for next to nothing - and yet, despite its reputation, EA is honouring its blunder.

An email from EA (via SportsKeeda) has revealed that despite the mistake being pretty monumental, the company will follow through on the pricing and make sure that players who bought the sporting series at its drastically reduced price will still get the game.

"A few weeks back, we scored a pretty spectacular own-goal when we inadvertently offered FIFA 23 pre-purchase on the Epic Games Store at an incorrect price," the EA spokesperson says. "It was our mistake, and we wanted to let you know that we'll be honouring all pre-purchases made at that price." It's good sportsmanship from EA (pun definitely intended), and a nice gesture that goes a long way. If you got lucky, congratulations - we're incredibly jealous of you.
