ESL Pro League Season 11 To be Split into America and Europe Groups

After the announcement that the ESL Pro League would be forced to switch to being played online during the regular season with a LAN finale to be played in studio came through earlier this month, it seemed as though it would be the end of problems for ESL. Unfortunately, when concerns about teams not all being located within the same region came through, multiple changes had to be made.

First and most notable, is that there will be divisions made between Europe and North America to cater to the online matches required. The former will have three groups - so guaranteeing additional teams qualifying - and the latter will only have one.

Not only this, but Renegades has declined to travel in order to participate in the online league, and Sharks has come to an agreement with EPL to not play this season out as well. Swole Patrol will replace the former, with a replacement yet to be decided for the Sharks. However, both teams will be able to play the next season onwards.

Fortunately, the Asian teams seem to have been able to make it to Europe to play for the European online portion.

Questions are still being raised as to what the rules will be regarding retention of slots should the replacement teams qualify, as relegation still remains a hot button issue for the ESL Pro League. Should the additional teams make a deep run for this season, will it be counted? Will this season be considered null going into the next one this year? Many eyebrows are being raised about the continuity of the season while the global crisis continues to hit the esports world hard.
