It's happening, it's finally happening, the "gears" are turning on a live-action Gears of War movie. While we once remember video game adaptations for the abysmal DOOM starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, we've come a long way. Hoping to join the upper echelons of great adaptations, Gears of War presumably hopes to be the next Sonic the Hedgehog and not another Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

There's a lot going on in the world of live-action video game adaptations, although most of it is on the small screen. Alongside HBO's upcoming The Last of Us, Amazon is working on adaptations based on the worlds of Fallout and God of War. On the silver screen, Tom Holland is due to return for more Uncharted movies, but what about Marcus Fenix?

Will Dave Bautista Play Marcus Fenix?

To celebrate the Gears of War anniversary (the first game came out on November 7, 2006), Netflix tweeted to confirm it's working on a live-action Gears of War movie alongside an adult animated series. The first question on everyone's lips is who will be playing Marcus Fenix. We assume the movie will loosely follow the events of the games, which means we've got to see Delta Squad in action.

Whispers of a live-action Gears of War movie have been doing the rounds for what seems like an eternity, with Bautista explaining he turned down the opportunity to appear in the Fast & Furious movies because he's all-in on playing Fenix. It seems he isn't alone in his hopes, with Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski tweeting, "Oh and yes, Bautista as Marcus please - and a Latino actor for Dom, dammit."

Cliffy B isn't the only one thinking Bautista will muscle his way into Netflix's Gears movie. The Twitterverse was awash with similar sentiments. "With the movie being announced coming to Netflix I sure hope we see Dave Bautista as Marcus Fenix," cheered one fan. Another added, "If Dave Bautista isn't Marcus in the gears of war movie what's the point?" while a third joked, "Dave Bautista's agent is probably already on the phone with Netflix for the Gears of War movie."

What's Dave Bautista's Connection To Gears Of War?

Bautista has a strange symbiosis with Gears of War. As well as lobbying his own pitch to Warner Bros., Gears 5 made the most of his franchise love by actually putting him in the game. Bautista appeared as himself in a limited release, where The Coalition rerecorded all of Fenix's lines and used his likeness. The former wrestler has repeatedly thrown his hat in the ring and seems ready to kick Locust butt.

If you want to stir the pot a little more, remember that Bautista is no stranger to Netflix. He famously led Army of the Dead and is next due to appear in Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery on the platform. At this point, it's become such a running joke, we'd be surprised if the Guardians of the Galaxy star isn't already working on a deal. To be honest, we feel a little sorry for the original Fenix actor, John DiMaggio. Either way, we're sure Bautista is hitting the gym.
