Finally, the question fans of the Halo series have been waiting for has been answered. Halo Infinite has been announced to launch on December 8th, 2021. Halo Infinite is the sixth instalment of the incredibly popular first-person shooter Halo series and the sixteenth Halo game overall.

Did The Halo Infinite Release Date Already Leak?

Unfortunately, yes. The release date had leaked on the Xbox store already yesterday, with today's announcement just being a confirmation of that oopsie. The game had been delayed several times, in part due to COVID-19 related delays.

Halo Infinite will launch on the Xbox One, Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows, with the much-anticipated multiplayer gameplay being free-to-play.

During Wednesday's Gamescom, Joseph Staten, Head Of Creative at Halo, said: "We started flighting our multiplayer earlier this month, and it was great to see the positive reaction and all the energy that came out of the tests."

He then revealed that Halo Infinite campaign and multiplayer will launch together. The multiplayer will be completely free-to-play. There will also be some microtransactions, however they will be cosmetic only and there will be no loot boxes. Additionally, many top-tier cosmetics can be earned for free and most are unlockable via gameplay alone.

What Else Do We Know About Halo Infinite?

When it comes to customisation, 343 Industries has thought about it all - there'll be the potential of millions of variations to your Spartan. All the mainstays are here - including the ability to customise the armour type and colour of your Spartan.

Not only that, the game will also let you change your Spartan’s body type, voice, and even add prosthetic limbs. Armour effects are back as well. The deep level of customisation coming to Halo Infinite rivals that of any other game on the market.

If you're wondering about cross progression and crossplay - that's something else that's been considered and will be available at launch. If you're the kind of person that chooses to play on platforms and PC, you jump between both while maintaining all of your account progress.

Halo Infinite will launch on December 8th.
