Halo TV Series Reveals When It Is Set
The upcoming Halo series is something that we didn't know we needed until it was revealed. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense - the world of Zeta Halo is certainly fascinating and high-concept enough to bring some amazing stories to life.
Alongside the now-canned movie in development, there are a wealth of Halo novels following Spartans all over the galaxy. It's about time one of the most recognisable gaming franchises ever got its time to shine on the small screen.
It's going to be interesting to see how Paramount approaches the operations of the UNSC in a new linear narrative. It has, however, been revealed that the timeline of the show may be something very interesting indeed. Sorry, Halo purists - this story's about to be very different.
Halo Infinite's Canon Is Entirely New
It turns out that the upcoming Paramount Halo TV series takes place on its very own timeline, disconnecting itself from any Halo stories we've seen so far in favour of a new "Silver Timeline".
The news was revealed by Kiki Wolfkill at 343 Industries, explaining that diverting to an all-new timeline will help to keep the different properties working at their very best.
"We're referring to this as the Halo Silver Timeline as a way of differentiating it from core canon", she says. "And both protecting core canon and protecting the television story, and by that I mean being able to give ourselves the chance to evolve both, and for both to be what they need to be for their mediums without colliding with each other."
Is Making A New Halo Timeline A Good Idea?
Building a whole new Halo narrative is a brilliant idea, not just for existing fans, but new ones too. Unlike The Last Of Us, Halo doesn't have a lot resting on one story, but rather, is a vessel for larger stories.
Creating a new timeline allows new fans to ease in with something fresh without needing to know too much on entry, while old fans have something new to enjoy that follows the rules of the games.
It's a good call for the series to do this in order to maintain the narratives of the games, as well as opening the world of Halo up to non-gamers - and that's a good thing by any stretch. We'll take any dive back into the Halo universe, and if it's entirely new, then sign us up.
