The Witcher 3 was an undoubtedly iconic game, but impossibly, it might even have been dwarfed by the series it spawned despite its huge draw in the gaming community.

The Netflix series that was born of the mythos from CD Projekt Red’s may have overtaken the popularity of the games, and most of that draw is in the recreation of such a dense fantasy world in real life, and Henry Cavill’s performance as the stoic Witcher Geralt of Rivia.

And as season two is now officially on the way, we might have even more good news to go with it.

According to We’ve Got This Covered, Netflix has seen to grabbing Henry Cavill’s Geralt for the long-term. It looks like they’re set to hang onto him for another five seasons, which makes a lot of sense given Schmidt Hissrich’s overarching plans for the series’ story capping out at seven seasons in total. Plus, it’s no surprise they’re thinking so far ahead, as The Witcher was greenlit for a second season before the first had even released.

Perhaps it was the stunting of the filming of season two that has prompted the signing - the pandemic made a grand impact on the creation of season two, and frankly, making sure your lead is on board for the rest of the show going forward is the best way to keep up on progress while unable to film anything.

This is a report to be taken with a pinch of salt as it has seen no confirmation from the show’s team or Cavill himself, but it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise if it came to be true. Whether or not he’s signed on yet, we’re just as excited for the next season. And the one after that. And the one after that.
