Come on Rockstar, make your mind up. First of all, there was no Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster, then it was coming out in 2022, and now... is it closer than ever? While some of us are left scouring the internet for breadcrumbs and tinfoil theories about the mythical GTA 6, others want a good ol' dose of nostalgic gaming.

Thankfully, we think we know Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is on the way. This trip down memory lane will bundle together PS2-era titles including 2001's GTA III, 2002's Vice City, and 2004's San Andreas. Even though we aren't expecting Claude, Tommy Vercetti, and Carl "Cj" Johnson to get much of a boost in terms of graphics, it's refreshing that we're getting something that isn't another GTA V port.

When is the GTA Trilogy coming?

On September 30, South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee officially rated Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition. It's apparently under the steam of Rockstar Dundee, which was previously known as Ruffian Games until it was acquired by those Take-Two Interactive overlords last October.

That's all well and good, but where does this leave us with a release date? Last we heard, the trilogy was supposed to launch in the next few months, but what with COVID-19 and various other problems, was shifted into 2022 alongside the likes of God of War: Ragnarok

According to Kotaku, things have stepped up a gear. The original plan had been to release the trilogy later this month or in early November. Presumably realising there's a ravenous market for anything related to GTA, sources have told the outlet these dates are locked in again.

When will we know more about the GTA trilogy?

It's interesting to note that the upcoming GTA V Expanded & Enhanced was originally slated to drop in November. It was only because E&E was pushed that we assumed the rumoured trilogy would go the same way. What if it's a case of the next-gen GTA V being shifted to next year, while GTA: The Trilogy has taken its slot in November?

The Christmas season is just around the corner, and with a passion for retro gaming alone, any form of new GTA game is sure to dominate the festive charts in 2021. Remembering that the 20th anniversary of GTA III is on October 22 - and Rockstar promised "fun surprises", we're guessing things will become clearer then.

In an era where game delays seem to become the norm, it would definitely be a "fun surprise" if Rockstar treated us to the announcement of the trilogy and confirmed an imminent release date that was just weeks away. Either way, we're heading into the wardrobe for a Hawaiian shirt to cosplay as Tommy whenever the GTA trilogy is made official.
