We've known for a while now that Red Dead Online isn't Rockstar's priority. It has been a well-signalled slow decay for the game, and now, fans are gearing up to say goodbye for good.

The game has slowly been losing updates and attention from Rockstar Games, and in spite of the #SaveRedDeadOnline movement, the game is still suffering from little care from the company as they keep GTA Online moving and gear up for the upcoming GTA 6.

It has been depressing to watch for fans, and it's getting even worse, as a new update from Rockstar has practically heralded the end of the game.

In a blog post updating fans on what Rockstar Games are up to last week, the team have extended their gratitude to the work put towards Grand Theft Auto by its developers, and many fans have interpreted this as a final goodbye to the game on behalf of the company as they focus on GTA 6. And now, the same update has been extended to Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.

A new patch has rolled out to Red Dead Redemption 2 that allows players to view the game's credits from the pause menu, and upon reaching the end of them, a new message can be seen.

"Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped create Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online," reads the final message. For many, this is the final nail in the coffin for the games, and indicates that the game is truly in the rearview mirror for Rockstar Games.

Red Dead Online - What Now?

Franky, nobody really knows the direction that Red Dead Online could go at this stage. The game has been without DLC for over a year now, which is a much worse fate than its older brother GTA Online is suffering, and as player numbers dwindle in the wake of so few meaningful updates, the game looks to be decaying and haemorrhaging players faster than ever.

Truly, it feels like the game is dying. And not in a "dead game" way - in a "won't exist this time next year" way.

Who knows when Rockstar will pull the plug, but Red Dead Online fans are still devastated by the lack of support. It looks like this could truly be the end. Be rootin' and tootin' while you still can.
