New Dead By Daylight Skin Is Already Terrifying Players

Behaviour Interactive is dusting off the VHS player, phoning up players, and warning they only have “seven days.” The asymmetric horror continues to go from strength to strength, and while you might think we’re running out of horror icons, the developer is proving critics wrong with its Ringu crossover.

In 1998, Hideo Nakata released Ringu - based on Koji Suzuki’s novel from 1991. The series hit the mainstream thanks to 2002’s American remake known as The Ring. Both contained a demonic kid thrown down a well, deadly videotapes, and a series of increasingly lacklustre sequels. Still, the vision of the bedraggled Sadako (Samara in the West) has become an icon in its own right and brought her to DbD.

Why Is Dead By Daylight’s Ring Crossover So Scary?

Dead by Daylight is known for terrifying us all on a regular basis, however, the addition of its Ringu crossover is a real nightmare. Ahead of Sadako going live on March 8, some lucky horror hounds are getting to try her out early. For those who don’t know, the Fog Whisperers are a selected group of streamers that Behaviour gets to roadtest a season ahead of general release. 

Already flooding the Twitterverse, fans are spoiling a major jumpscare that you’ll need to look out for. While you’re happily selecting your killer and their perks, Sadako will stand there patiently by her well. The problem is, she doesn’t stay there for long. 

At random points, she’ll leap forward and frighten the bejeesus out of. As the official Dead by Daylight Twitter has shown us, Twitch streamers are already requiring a change of underwear. In Dead by Daylight, Sadako is known as The Onryō and is joined by Ringu’s Yoichi Asakawa as a new survivor. 

Is Dead By Daylight’s Ring Crossover The Scariest Yet?

If you weren’t already unplugging your phone in anticipation of Sadako’s call, her mori animation is equally horrifying. In Dead by Daylight, a mori is an instant kill ability for Survivors that have been hooked. As you can see, the Ringu crossover has included a gruesome addition that’s a fate worse than death.

There’s something about Sadako’s long hair and the fact we never really get to see her face that makes her even more unnerving. As The Omen and those skipping kids from the Elm Street movies will remind you, creepy children are some of the scariest out there. Still, Sadako is aiming to prove she’s the boss in Dead by Daylight.
