PewDiePie Labelled Hypocrite By Fans After Divisive Post Resurfaces
As the largest YouTuber in existence, in terms of numbers, not height (although he's no slouch in that department either), Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg remains as one of the largest voices in gaming. PewDiePie's words are taken as gospel, as after all, who wouldn't listen to the best around.
However, as gaming evolves and the world of content creation adapts with it, YouTubers in the spotlight may have said previous comments that land them in a spot of bother.
Unfortunately for PewDiePie, this has rung true for him. Many of his fans have hit out at Kjellberg, brandishing him as a "hypocrite", following comments he made seven years ago about video editing and the management of his page.
PewDiePie's Comments 7 Years Ago
Many of PewDiePie's avid fans see the Swedish superstar as a role model, especially for those who aspire to enter content creation and follow in his footsteps.
Speaking to fans back in 2014, the YouTuber gave advice on how to grow his channel and how his personal account will stay true. He said “I feel like I’d be cheating my fans. My videos would lose a huge part of ‘me’. I want to prove that even with the biggest channel on YouTube, you don’t have to have a lot of money. As long as you have a camera and a passion, you can go as far as you want.”
PewDiePie Hits Back At Critics
Nowadays, PewDiePie has a whole team of editors and content producers to assist in his work, admitting that he doesn't edit his videos any more.
After the clip resurfaced, he took to a YouTube video to say: “I think I stayed true to that. Especially considering how most YouTubers run their channel. Yes, I don’t edit my videos any more, obviously. But I also wouldn’t be able to upload nearly enough for this amount of time. So it’s a trade. I don’t know if this was meant to put me on the spot, but I think I stayed true to myself and this idea.”
“I don’t think [I'm a hypocrite]. I’ve talked about it, and I’ve talked about how my view on it has changed. There’s no way I would be able to upload as many videos for this long of a time if I had edited myself. It just isn’t feasible,”
After being under fire, PewDiePie did admit that he misses editing his content, although the mass of content he does now mean he cannot find the time in his schedule to get his hands dirty.
