Sony is proudly saying "You've got a friend in me," as a classic from the glory days of the PlayStation in flying - well, falling with style - back into our lives for the latest generation of consoles. That's right, you'll finally be able to play Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue on your shiny PS5.

Retro gaming is all the rage these days, and while Microsoft has reigned supreme with backward compatibility, we've seen Sony and Nintendo get on the train a little later than their gaming rival. The Nintendo Switch Online catalogue currently boasts N64 classics, whereas the new and improved PlayStation Plus promises to hark back to a golden gaming age for the PS5.

When Is Toy Story 2 Coming To PS5?

Posting on Reddit, u/NonGetGudPlayer pointed out that Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue will be part of the rebranded PlayStation Plus Premium. Forget Ape EscapeOddworld: Abe's Oddysee, or Tekken 2, we want to see Buzz take on Zurg and Al. And no, we're not talking about the side-scrolling version that was released for the Game Boy Colour.

If you never played it because you were too young or were playing with your real toys instead of virtual ones in 1999, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue launched alongside Pixar's Oscar-winning movie of the same name and had a multi-console release for N64, PS One, and PC. The story follows the basic premise of John Lasseter's movie and has you leaving Andy's bedroom for a variety of different levels.

Although we've had various ports of Toy Story 2 for PS3 and PSP, the fact it's coming to PlayStation Plus is a big win. Other gamers were equally impressed. One wrote, "Wowwww memory unlocked," while another added, "God I remember playing this too and bugs Life lol." Blue Sky Gameplay has captured some footage of Toy Story 2 on PS5 - which is like a welcome trip down memory lane.

How Much Does PS Plus Premium Cost?

Doing away with PlayStation Now and merging the two subscription services, we've already started to see a tease of which classic PS1, PS2, and PS3 games are coming to PlayStation Plus Premium. The upper tier of the service costs more at $17.99/£13.49 a month or $119.99/£99.99, but it's worth it for nostalgia alone.

Note that this latest lineup comes from PlayStation Asia, while the service launches in the UK next month. It's likely there are going to be a few differences, but it's a pretty good indication of what's on the way. As long as Buzzy, Woody, and co. are back in action, the return of Toy Story 2 for some retro gaming fun has us dashing to sign up for the new PS Plus before you can say "To infinity and beyond".
