Reality Rift Quit Dota 2 And Release Roster
Reality Rift has announced that they have "shut down" and dropped their Dota 2 roster.
In a TwitLonger post, the CEO of Reality Rift, Ilya Vlasov, has declared that the team has disbanded due to three reasons, those being "Travel restrictions resulted in team management and training difficulties", "Low effort management of the esports scene from Valve", and "Budget pressure on core business of Reality Rift (gaming arena in Singapore) due to COVID restrictions in retail".
Players Lee "kYxY" Kong Yang and Wong "NutZ" Jeng Yih have become free agents, whilst Ravdan "Hustla" Narmandakh and Vincent “AlaCrity” Hiew Teck Yoong are still under contract.
Vlasov explains that one of the large contributing factors towards the disbandment was the impacts of COVID-19. Touching on the travel restrictions in Singapore and Malaysia, he states " Players can’t travel home or to team house. Four of them (Hustla, Nutz, Drew, Kyxy) visited home last time more than 6 months ago. The team was stuck in the team house for quite a long time, and even if you love your colleagues as hard as Hustla loves Nutz, it’s still a bit challenging and demoralising.
"Management can’t be with the team and make sure that all the processes work properly. LAN tournaments, the most motivating and interesting ones got cancelled. Visa issues for the players started becoming a problem, and there is no way to resolve it before the restrictions end".
Reality Rift's best achievement to date came at DreamLeague Season 13, where they broke into the top 16 teams in the world, winning $12,500 before falling to TNC Predator.
Their last hoorah came in the BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia, where they managed a fifth-sixth placed finish.
