System Shock was released in 1994 and was an immediate hit. The game developed by LookingGlass Technologies brought a breath of fresh air to the Action-Adventure game with a steampunk aesthetic and immersive environments galore. The game went on to influence the likes of Bioshock and Deus Ex and stands as an absolute classic that helped to lay the groundwork for some of the best games ever made.

A remake of the title was announced shortly after the release of System Shock: Enhanced Edition in 2015, and we haven’t heard much of it since, making fans fear the worst and assume it could have been canned somewhere along the way. But, fear not, as a new look at the gameplay for the System Shock remake has been released and proves that no, this remake isn’t going anywhere.

Developers Night Dive has offered fans a good look at some of the gameplay of the System Shock remake in a new seven-minute video. This comes after a short playable demo was made available for fans last month of the game’s build.

System Shock’s remake still looks just as freaky, creeping, and tense as the original with some gorgeous lighting effects, leaving the game’s neon aesthetic to bounce around in the dark, tight corridors of the Citadel Station.

The official date of the game’s release is still up in the air at the moment, but it’s projected to release this year on PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

The new footage looks like it’s added a serious amount of polish to the dingy and creepy aesthetics of the original System Shock. Whenever this game does end up coming out, it’s going to be a great return to the gaming classic - and for that, we can’t wait.
