It's been a year since players slashed and shot their way through The Last of Us Part 2. Even though fans think they've discovered there's everything there is to discover, we only recently discovered a glitch that lets you kill Tommy Miller. It turns out this isn't the only secret that's been unearthed.

While Naughty Dog's long-awaited sequel to 2013's first game was a record-breaking success, that doesn't mean Part 2 wasn't without its flaws - anyone for a round of golf? Still, it was a well-crafted adventure that was littered with some great Easter eggs. Now, one player has found a bizarre homage to the PlayStation 3.

What is the PlayStation 3 Easter egg in The Last of Us Part 2?

Over on The Last of Us Reddit, u/Affe_Boy__showed off the unusual find that you can't shoot a PS3 in the game. The Last of Us Part 2 came out in that weird limbo where hype for the PS5 was ramping up, and the PS4 was entering the end of its life cycle. Although the first game released on the PS3, the beloved console largely went out of production in 2016, with Japan being the last territory (holding out until May 2017).

The PS3 Easter egg can be found in The Last of Us Part 2's library section. When playing as Ellie, you can find the historic console and "try" to take out your anger on it. In the video, the player shoots around the PS3 with a rifle, however, they're stopped from pulling the trigger when aiming directly at it.

Players were impressed by the find and shared their thoughts on the post. One wrote, "I love that they knew we would try to shoot literally everything", while another added, "Can confirm. I still use my PS3 regularly. They are indestructible". PS3 obviously aren't bulletproof, so we wouldn't recommend trying to shoot one.

Finally, a third explained how you can't zoom in on Alice the dog's corpse or destroy items in houses of worship: "This happens a lot in the game. When you kill Alice the game doesn't even let you use a scope to see her in close up. And it doesn't let you shoot scripture in that Jewish house of worship. Very cool details in this game".

Are there more PlayStation Easter eggs in The Last of Us Part 2?

As with any The Last of Us game, this mould-ravaged apocalypse is full to bursting with clever Easter eggs. Alongside the soundtrack of Naughty Dog's Hotline Miami making an appearance, the most famous Easter egg is the inclusion of a PlayStation Vita. The maligned handheld might not be the company's best-selling system, but it still popped up in Part 2.

During one scene, Ellie came across WLF member Whitney playing what's possibly the world's last PS Vita. Referring back to the PS3 egg, another player wrote, "Can't shoot the Vita that the portable gamer girl Whitney uses either". It turns out, that unlike the PS3, you can shoot at the Vita - but still can't cause it any damage. We guess Sony doesn't like encouraging players to destroy its consoles.
