Valkyrae Breaks Silence Following Backlash From Fans Over New Skin Products
Since launching her own skincare range, named RFLCT, Rachel "Valkyrae" Hofstetter has received a barrage of backlash, having based her products on the protection against "blue light pollution" without any public data behind their research.
The company was widely criticised for its lack of communication surrounding its research, including the claimed damages of blue light, and the way in which the products aim to combat any tweaking of the skin. With very little research published on their official website, many critics branded the campaign as a "scam", much to the frustration and confusion of Valkyrae.
Having seen the backlash unfold, Rae took to Twitter to express how she was "confused", and will update fans at a later date, and now the 100 Thieves co-owner has finally broken her silence.
Taking to social media again, amid a short streaming hiatus, Valkyrae updated fans with a voice note, in which she validated the concerns of her following, and admitted that she was also disappointed at the lack of transparency on the website, and from the labs.
"I’ve been waiting to speak and to stream until after I see how the RFLCT website has been updated," Valkyrae began.
"All the hate, doubt, concerns, and criticism are all warranted and valid. I understand completely where you’re all coming from."
She continued: "I also was very upset and confused when I saw the website and there were no links to the studies or credits to the labs or the people that work behind the scenes to make RFLCT happen."
It's clear that Valkyrae is attempting to show more transparency about the matter, claiming that she didn't know whether she was actually allowed to speak publicly.
RFLCT is now looking at amending the website, with a potential publicising of studies and practices being available, allowing for people to see the full effects of the products.
With Rae staying off-stream and away from publishing her own content until the matter is resolved, she will likely be pushing for a solution quickly. She also removed the tags of "100 Thieves co-owner and co-founder of RFLCT" out of her social media bios, presumably as a response to the backlash.
