As the sunset peeks through the jaded concrete atop of the Prison castle watchtowers, turned prominent snipers nest, for the last time, some Warzone fans are gearing up to pay an emotional final farewell to Verdansk.

Much like a babe being uplifted from their cot and into the joys of their new bunk bed, Warzone players are removing their Verdansk teddy bears in favour of a brand-new shiny toy that better suits their age. Verdansk's days are numbered, and as we outgrow the world in which Warzone was born, a tip of the hat to an old friend seems necessary.

Fans have now been taking to Reddit to pay their respects to Verdansk, a battleground that wasn't just an ordinary map, but a scapegoat for many people to escape the reality of the global pandemic by socialising with online friends and enjoying the game.

One user began, "[the] pandemic scenario gave us the chance to play games, A LOT, and we had good times online with our friends. No matter how the new map is gonna be, one thing is for sure: WE'RE GONNA MISS VERDANSK!"

Other fans also suggested that Raven Software should re-think their demolishing of Verdansk and adopt an Apex Legends-esque approach to their map pool.

Respawn Entertainment offer a trifecta, soon to be a quadfecta, of maps, including the original, yet widely adapted Kings Canyon alongside the newer Olympus and Worlds Edge. Played on rotation (90 minutes per map on casual and every five weeks on ranked), the map variety is commended by Apex fans, with some Warzone players believing the new Pacific Map should compliment Verdansk and Rebirth Island, rather than be their doom.

"I think overall Verdansk is balanced for mid to long-range combat but plenty of opportunity for close range, especially depending on the circle, and I would hope the new map is similarly balanced," one fan started. They added, "Obviously close range, faster-paced maps like rebirth island are very popular and they should definitely keep an option for that alive via an alternate BR game mode as we have now."

Generally, the consensus is that Verdansk has played its part in Warzone's birthing arc, and despite being a necessary sacrifice, it has served its purpose as the perfect stepping stone.

With Call of Duty: Vanguard rolling out on November 5, and the integration with Warzone expected on the same day, or shortly after, time is running out on Verdansk. It might be time to get the squad back together for a final hurrah...
