Destiny 2 Lightfall DownTime: When Will It Start?
We can confirm that Destiny 2 is going to be taken offline ahead of the launch of Lightfall. This is so Bungie can implement the expansion and make sure everything works before releasing it to the public.
This downtime will begin 24 hours before the launch of Lightfall. Reset time is different depending on where you are in the world, like 9AM PST, 12PM EST, or 5PM GMT. Whatever your local reset time is, the downtime will begin at that time on Monday 27 February.
You will not be able to play Destiny 2 from that time, but you will be able to download and install the Lightfall expansion ahead of it going live the following day.

Destiny 2 Lightfall downtime: What You Need To Do
As you might imagine, anything you need to get done ahead of Lightfall absolutely needs to be done before the downtime begins on Monday. Thankfully, sunsetting is no longer an issue and no paid content is going away when Lightfall launches.
What is going away is all of the seasonal content from the last year. This includes all quests and items from Season of the Risen, Season of the Haunted, Season of Plunder, and Season of the Seraph.
Some of the seasonal weapons are craftable, such as the Ikelos weapons from Season of the Seraph, so be sure to add those to your collection while you can.
Otherwise, be sure to finish off any seasonal story content that you haven't gotten around to, All seasonal quests from the last year are still available to complete before the end of the week. If you are looking to hit the ground running with Lightfall, maybe pick up some bounties while you play this week.
Complete them, but hold off on redeeming them. Save them until next week, and get yourself some instant experience gains. This will get you started on the season pass, while also making progress on your seasonal artefact.
