Digimon Survive: Release Date, Trailers, Gameplay, And More

Digimon Survive is the latest Digimon game, making for a unique combination of visual novel, survival, and strategy role-playing design that seems like it could make a name for itself. It's been in the works for a while, with the initial reveal coming way back in 2018, but it has had a tumultuous development period that's seen multiple delays and even a complete switch up of the development studio. Digimon Survive Release Date 

Digimon Survive is set for a worldwide release on July 29, with the Japanese version coming a day earlier, which means players have less than a month before it comes. The game has had several release potential release periods since its announcement, original being delayed to 2020 from a planned release in 2019, then being delayed again to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The developers were pretty silent on the game after this delay, until we finally got the release date in early 2022.

The announcement trailer for Digimon Survive came during July 2018, mostly showing some screenshots of environments and characters, while text teased the overall the story of the game. It then briefly debuted some of the visual novel-style and turn-based combat gameplay. 

Due to the development issues, there weren't many new trailers until this year, beginning with the release date announcement in April. It just showed one of the producers, Kasumasa Habu, talking to the camera and giving the release date. Another release date trailer came in mid-July, that was primarily gameplay-based, showing off some of the choices during visual novel segments, map traversal, and more combat.

The latest trailer was a deep-dive on the gameplay, with a narrator explaining the different mechanics and systems. It showed off many different interconnecting gameplay styles, influenced by visual novels, survival, and strategy role-playing games.

During the visual novel segments there is a lot of emphasis on choices, which can result in different story paths, earning affinity and karma with characters, character deaths, and affect digivolutions. There are also battle sections which are turn-based, letting you select different Digimon to make use of, upgrade, and kit out with equipment to improve. You can also talk to allies in combat to give them buffs, and using the right choice of words against enemies can cause them to join your side.
