Is Fire Emblem Engage anything like its predecessor, Fire Emblem Three Houses? Engage is the latest game in the Fire Emblem franchise, and it's changed up the formula a bit from the previous title. But how similar are the two games overall? Keep reading to find out if Fire Emblem Engage is anything like Three Houses.

If you've been following reviews of the game, you might know that Engage has stripped back some of the social features that Three Houses introduced. For example, there's no school feature and there's less emphasis on spending time outside of battles.

However, a common misconception is that these features have been mostly removed in their entirety. Actually, Engage still has a lot of options outside of battles and even retains a similar support system and central hub for you to explore.

In Fire Emblem Engage, rather than the Monastery, you'll be exploring the Somniel, a floating hub you can visit between story chapters. This acts much in the same way as the Monastery, where you can roam around and do different activities such as training, buying items and even sitting down for a nice meal.

The support system has returned in Engage as well. Each character has unique conversations with one another that can be unlocked over time.

You can grow your relationship with characters by fighting alongside them, inviting them for a meal and gifting them items. You can also romance a variety of characters, although there's less of the dating simulator-style moments from Three Houses.

If you were a fan of Three Houses for the school/social aspects, you should still find plenty to enjoy in Engage. However, there is a greater focus on battles in Engage.

The combat has been switched back to the classic Fire Emblem weapon triangle system, where certain weapons will break other weapon types. Axes beat lances, lances beat swords and swords beat axes.

Battles are a bit more common, and there's less downtime between them. So, if you're not a fan of the Three Houses school stuff, Engage may be the Fire Emblem for you.

Overall though, both games share a lot of features despite some key differences that set them apart.
