To unlock fishing initially, you’ll have to speak to Katheryne in Mondstatd and complete the ‘Exploding Population’ quest. This acts as a tutorial to fishing and will unlock future fishing from here. To activate this quest, you’ll have to have unlocked the Serenitea Pot first, by completing the tasks laid out by Madame Ping in Liyue Harbour.

As with harvestable items, fish take three real days to respawn from a fishing spot and require different types of bait or times of the day to spawn. Night-time is measured from 6pm to 6am and daytime is measured from 6am to 6pm.

Genshin Impact Fishing Spots: Fish Recipes

Fish are used in 28 recipes, as a by-product of the wild fish you catch throughout Teyvat. This means that by refining the fish as a cooking ingredient, you don’t have to catch a specific fish for a dish. Refining ingredients can be done through navigating the cooking menu at a campfire. Refining food takes real-time to achieve, or you can buy the ingredients you need from various merchants in Teyvat.

Refining fish can sometimes yield multiple quantities depending on the initial fish used for the process. Each dish has a distinct buff which usually helps recover HP. This makes fishing worth a try as it can be an effective way to build up inventory of cooked dishes that will heal your party in a pinch.

  • Now you’re all set to fish, take a look at our Genshin Upgrade guide: How to upgrade weapons, to make sure you have the best stats possible on your journey through Teyvat.
