If you’re a fan of the manga, you’ll know the cast of One Piece Odyssey is a ton of fun, and choosing who you want to play as can be a tough call. One the one hand, you have the noble leader of the group Luffy, whereas on the other, the swashbuckling Zoro can be tempting to play as.

Luckily, One Piece Odyssey allows you to play as any of the main cast at any given time. Each has their own set of abilities and play styles which are catered to a wide variety of players, but something the game doesn’t do too well is explain how you swap between them all. If you’re eager to change to your favourite hero, here’s how to swap characters in One Piece Odyssey.

In the opening hours of One Piece Odyssey, you’ll be in the shoes of Luffy as you explore the island you and your crew have marooned on. As the game opens up, it will introduce you to Luffy’s move set, such as being able to use his Gum-Gum Rocket to travel to hard-to-reach locations.

However, as you venture forth, you’ll discover areas that require something other than Luffy’s abilities to get to it. You’re most likely to stumble across this for the first time in One Piece Odyssey’s first dungeon, where you’ll come across a metal gate blocking your path. While the game does alert you on how to change characters, it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.

In order to break through metal gates, you’ll need Zoro, and changing to him couldn’t be easier. Players will simply need to use the d-pad on controllers, or the appropriate key bind on PC to easily scroll through the characters. Once you’ve highlighted the character you want, press the interact button and you’ll change to them on the fly.

Learning this early on is vital, as you may need to change to Chopper to access small passageways, or use Usopp’s nose to snipe down hidden collectables. Be sure to always explore every environment fully and use The Color of Observation Haki to discover nearby items in One Piece Odyssey.
